ETS-Lindgren's CCTV Intercom System is a reliable and efficient method for constant contact between the MRI room and the control room. Providing the ability to speak to the patient or to the technician who is preparing the patient for an MRI scan, the CCTV intercom system offers a simple, easy method for communication. While some MRI systems come with a built-in speaker and microphone design, older systems typically do not have that option.
A suspended microphone placed within the MRI suite captures the communications from anyone within the MRI room. A wall mounted speaker is conveniently placed within the MRI suite for ease of sound transmission for all control room personnel.
In the control room, the MR technician can use the desk mounted microphone to reassure a nervous patient, ask or answer questions, or provide instructions and information to the patient. By utilizing a push-to-talk (PPT) function, the patient only hears what is intended for him to hear and not an unrelated conversation in the control room. Built-in speakers to the video monitor are used for sound transmission to the control room personnel.
The color video monitor within the control room provides clear images of the patient, ensuring that he is properly positioned, relaxed and ready for the next scan sequence. A stationary video camera, mounted within the MRI suite, transmits images through fiber optic cable to the control room monitor. The manual zoom is adjusted once for optimum image content when installed. There is no need for readjustment because it is a fixed position camera. The communication converters are placed both inside the MRI suite and inside the control room. Once installed, no adjustment is required.
The 7.62 m (25 ft) fiber optic cable provides adequate flexibility in placement of the camera, speaker and microphone within the MRI suite. Video to and from the converters is done with typical BNC connectors. Data transmission connection is made with typical DB-9 pin connectors and the speaker connections use standard RCA jacks with outputs of 1 W each.
