2304 PRECISION MULTI-AXIS POSITIONER (MAPS)

2304

ETS-Lindgren's Model 2304 Precision Mobile Multi-Axis Positioning System (MAPS) provides smooth rotation of a test object in both theta and phi axes in a mobile format for maximum flexibility of use.

ETS-Lindgren's Model 2304 Precision Mobile Multi-Axis Positioning System (MAPS) is designed to provide smooth rotation of a test object in both theta and phi axes. This capability is an ideal match for systems that measure spherical antenna patterns and total radiated power of a test object. The design of the Model 2304 is optimized for use in existing semi-anechoic chambers and other multipurpose or shared test facilities. The Model 2304 is highly mobile, which allows it to be moved and redeployed as desired with ease.

Positioning

The Model 2304 provides for precise yet flexible positioning of a test object, which can be mounted using fixtures available from ETS-Lindgren, custom design fixtures, or fixtures of your own design and manufacture. Objects can be rotated independently, in either/both theta and phi axes. Objects can be rotated 360 degrees (non-continuous) in either a clockwise or a counterclockwise direction, at variable speeds, and under program control using the optional software.

Compatibility

The Model 2304 allows the height of the theta axis to be manually adjusted from 1.5 m to 1.7 m.  The adjustable height allows two different test methodologies to be implemented with a single positioner. For measurement methods requiring the test object to be rotated around a theta axis at 1.5 m height, use the default height of 1.5 m. For measurement methods requiring the bottom of the test object to be at a height of 1.5 m, the height of the theta axis can be adjusted upwards by 200 mm to a height of 1.7 m to accommodate test objects of up to a 40 cm cube.

Construction

The Model 2304 is covered with low reflective absorber material to minimize undesired reflections or distortion of RF fields. Control and motor units are contained in RF-shielded enclosures and are placed within the absorber covering. Signal lines from the controller to the connected PC are fiber optic and utilize an Ethernet-over-Fiber adapter at the PC.
