ETS-Lindgren Announces Technical Contributions to EuCAP 2022

5G, MIMO, Antenna Calibration, and Automotive Research to be Presented at Leading Antenna Conference

CEDAR PARK, Texas – March 10, 2022 – ETS-Lindgren announced its technical contributions to the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2022, Europe’s largest and most significant antennas and propagation conference, to be held at the IFEMA Palacio Municipal in Madrid, Spain, from March 27 to April 1.  ETS-Lindgren engineers will present four papers as part of the extensive EuCAP technical program.  These papers are included in Convened Sessions (CS), some of which are organized by industry associations, including the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).  ETS-Lindgren’s industry-leading engineers were invited to present papers in these sessions to share their latest antenna test and measurement methodology R&D advancement.  These new test methods result in faster, more accurate, reliable, and precise measurements to evaluate the performance of a variety of electronic devices, from the smallest cell phone to the largest vehicle.

Michael Foegelle, Director, Technology Development with ETS-Lindgren, will present his paper “Developing a MIMO Test Methodology Using Dynamic Channel Models and Link Adaptation” as part of CS02 – IET Session: Advancements and Challenges on Measurement Techniques for 5G and Beyond.  Dr. Foegelle is a co-chair of this extended session with Dr. Tian Hong Loh of the National Physics Laboratory (NPL) in the United Kingdom.  The year 2022 celebrates the fifth time ETS-Lindgren and NPL have collaborated on this unique session with global 5G experts since its EuCAP debut in 2018.

Zhong Chen, Director, RF Engineering with ETS-Lindgren, will present the paper “Examination of Antenna Calibration Methodologies in an Extrapolation Range,” co-authored by Dennis Lewis, Technical Fellow with The Boeing Company, in CS33 – Novel Antenna Measurement Techniques and Data Analysis.  Mr. Chen will also present “Comparison of Echo Reduction Techniques for Omni-Directional Antenna Calibration in an Extrapolation Range” co-authored by Yibo Wang, RF Engineer with ETS-Lindgren.  This paper is featured in CS06 – AMTA Session: Recent Advances in Test Chamber and Range Modeling, Design, Echo Reduction, and Characterizations.  Mr. Chen is also a co-chair of CS06 with Professor Stuart Gregson of Queen Mary University of London and Next Phase Measurements.

Since antennas are an increasingly critical component of today’s modern vehicles, Garth D’Abreu, Director, Automotive Solutions with ETS-Lindgren, will share the latest research on novel test environments for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and antenna pattern measurements of full vehicles in the paper “Chamber Design for Automotive EMC and ADAS Testing.”  This paper is featured in CS05 – AMTA Session:  Automotive Performance Testing for Connected and Automated Driving in Simulated Real-World Environments.  Mr. D’Abreu is a co-chair of this session with Dr. Christian Bornkessel of Technische Universität Ilmenau.

In addition to co-chairing CS02 and CS33, Janet O’Neil, Customer Relations Manager with ETS-Lindgren, will co-chair SW02 – AMTA Scientific Workshop: Expanding the Limits – Antenna Metrology Using UAVs. Cosme Culotta-López of QuadSAT is her co-chair. This workshop features notable speakers who will share their expertise with UAVs for remote measurement and novel usage applications.  For example, Professor Gregory Huff with Penn State University will discuss the use of UAV swarms for antenna characterization, direction finding, and digital beamforming.  “We supported Professor Huff’s research on the ‘Medusa Project’ when he was at Texas A&M, near our corporate headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas,” said Ms. O’Neil.  “It was exciting to help him validate his simulated performance of UAV swarms with data taken in our antenna measurement chamber.  In our EuCAP session, Professor Huff will share his latest R&D regarding the technical and logistical challenges of UAV swarms.”
