ETS-Lindgren Announces Technical Contributions to EuCAP 2021

5G, OTA, UAV, Time Domain Measurement, and Automotive Research to Be Presented at Leading Antenna Conference

CEDAR PARK, Texas February 11, 2021 ETS-Lindgren announced its technical contributions to the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2021, Europe's largest and most significant antennas and propagation conference, to be held virtually from March 22 - 26.  ETS-Lindgren engineers will present seven papers as part of the extensive EuCAP technical program.  Many of these papers are included in Convened Sessions (CS) organized by industry associations, including the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).  Recognized as industry leaders, ETS-Lindgren engineers were invited to present papers in these sessions in order to share their latest R&D efforts to advance test and measurement techniques.  These new techniques result in faster, more accurate, reliable, and precise measurements to evaluate the performance of a variety of electronic devices, from the smallest cell phone to the largest vehicle.

Michael Foegelle, Director, Technology Development with ETS-Lindgren will present his paper "Validation of CATRs for 5G mmWave OTA Testing Applications" as part of CS1 AMTA Session: 5G and mmWave Antenna Testing.  His paper "Minimizing the Impact of Positioning Equipment and Support Structure on 5G mmWave Device Testing" will be presented in CS20 IET Session: Measurement Advances and Challenges for 5G and Beyond.  As the co-chair of the joint CTIA Certification/Wi-Fi Alliance Converged Wireless Group and the CTIA Certification OTA Measurement Uncertainty Subgroup, Dr. Foegelle will share the latest standards activity in his paper "New CTIA Standard Phantoms for OTA Testing."  Included in CS8 Challenges and Solutions of Radio Frequency Tests for 5G Radios, this paper presents notable contributions from co-authors Niels Kuster with the Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT'IS Foundation), Fereshteh Rouholahnejad and Erdem Ofli with Schmid & Partner Engineering AG (SPEAG), and Kevin Li with Fitbit.

Zhong Chen, Director, RF Engineering with ETS-Lindgren will present "Extending Usable Low Frequency Range of an Anechoic Chamber for Antenna Calibrations Using Time Domain Deconvolution Filter" in CS23 Novel Antenna Measurement Techniques and Data Analysis.  He will also present the paper "Efficient and Accurate Modeling of EMC Anechoic Chambers Using a Combined Discrete Complex Image and Raytracing Method," co-authored by Yibo Wang, RF Engineer with ETS-Lindgren, in CS10b AMTA Session: Computational Modeling of Test Ranges Part 2.

Anoop Adhyapak, Senior RF Engineer with ETS-Lindgren will present the paper "Investigation of Higher-Order Modal Scattering of Anechoic Absorbers at mmWave Frequencies" co-authored by David Rolando with Ansys in CS23 Novel Antenna Measurement Techniques and Data Analysis.  Mr. Adhyapak will also present the paper "Exploration of Anechoic Chamber Characterization with Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems" in CS41 AMTA Session: Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) - Based Antenna Measurements.  His paper, co-authored by Mithun Diddi and Hanumant Singh with Northeastern University as well as Matthew Kling and Adam Colby with Kostas Research Institute at Northeastern University, shares data from their work using the Institute's unique chamber.  This oversized ETS-Lindgren-designed and -built RF shielded anechoic chamber and adjoining open area test site simulate free space and real-world environments for UAV research.

Since antennas are an increasingly critical component of today's modern vehicles, Garth D'Abreu, Director, Automotive Solutions with ETS-Lindgren will share the latest research on novel test environments for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and antenna pattern measurements of full vehicles in the 30-minute workshop presentation "Gaining Confidence Through Automotive Certification and Verification Testing."  The presentation reviews the broad range of performance-based RF assessment tests being developed to ensure the safety and reliability of vehicles and related components.
