Eurofins Expands Wireless Test Lab Capabilities with New 5G FR2 System

ETS-Lindgren's Compact Antenna Test Range Enables OTA Testing per 3GPP TR 38.810

CEDAR PARK, TX June 17, 2021 As an international group consisting of more than 800 laboratories, Eurofins offers exceptional testing and support services to a global customer base.  When Eurofins was ready to expand their wireless test capabilities to meet thriving customer demand in the Silicon Valley home to many of the world's leading companies in the wireless industry they selected the AMS-5705 Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR) from their trusted partner ETS-Lindgren.  Model AMS-5705 enables over-the-air (OTA) radiated performance measurements for 5G New Radio (5GNR) devices in the FR2 frequency range of 24 GHz to 42 GHz per 3GPP TR 38.810 and complements Eurofins' existing chambers previously provided by ETS-Lindgren, namely Models AMS-8800 and AMS-8900, used for testing 5GNR wireless devices over the FR1 frequency range of 8 GHz and below.  Now, with FR1 and FR2 test capabilities, Eurofins offers a wide range of 5GNR wireless test services to its customers.

"Adding the AMS-5705 to Eurofins' suite of wireless test chambers was seamless since we have worked with the engineers at Eurofins for many years and share the same commitment to high-quality customer service," said James Young, Director, Business Development with ETS-Lindgren.  "In addition, from a practical point of view, each of Eurofins' wireless test chambers use ETS-Lindgren's industry-leading EMQuest EMQ-100 software interface for FR1 and FR2 test requirements.  The software is instrumentation brand-agnostic, providing Eurofins with the flexibility to use existing instruments as well as those that may be purchased in the future.  As a further convenience, the CATR sits on wheels and can be moved easily from one lab area to another."

EMQuest EMQ-100 offers a wide range of fully parameterized test methods for measuring basic antenna performance metrics, as well as for testing both radiated and conducted performance of various wireless devices.  Flexible in its design, EMQuest EMQ-100 can be used to analyze antennas in stand-alone applications or to test an embedded antenna system and radio module against any of the industry standard OTA radiated performance test requirements.

Fred Yang, Vice-President Wireless Services International with Eurofins, said, "Our customers appreciate the expanded FR2 test capabilities Model AMS-5705 provides.  It supports 5GNR testing of a wide range of portable wireless devices up to 30 cm in size.  Now we can offer 5G testing services in both bands for any form factor up to 30 cm.  This system also handles passive antenna tests, so the device need not be in its final form to get meaningful antenna information.  Furthermore, we can offer the chamber to customers for use in their R&D efforts involving design validation, performance measurements, and production sample testing."  Reflecting on the expanded wireless device test capabilities, he added, "The FR2 chamber was a logical next step for Eurofins to keep up with the technological innovation inherent in the Silicon Valley.  Continuing our partnership with ETS-Lindgren lowered our risk, since they track the wireless industry standards to ensure we are always in step with technology.  It was a wise investment."

ETS-Lindgren provided a turn-key system consisting of the RF shielded enclosure, absorber, positioner, compact range reflector, laser alignment system, LED lights, and range calibration kits.  For the 3GPP TR 38.810 measurements from 24 GHz to 42 GHz, the kits included standard gain horn antennas and antenna mounts for the multi-axis positioning systems.  ETS-Lindgren's integration and training services enabled Eurofins to maximize their test capabilities shortly after receipt of their chamber.  Quiet zone performance validation per the procedures in 3GPP TR 38.810 at 24.25 GHz, 32 GHz, and 40 GHz assured Eurofins of a high-quality test environment.  Learn more about Eurofins' Model AMS-5705 turn-key system located in its Santa Clara, California, lab here
