ETS-Lindgren Expert Testifies on EMP Threats at US Congress

CEDAR PARK, Texas May 28, 2015 The United States Congress is considering new regulations that require electromagnetic pulse (EMP) protection of all critical infrastructure sectors, beyond the currently protected electrical sector. The proposed Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (CIPA) amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to include the threat of EMP events in national planning scenarios and to conduct outreach programs to educate owners and operators of critical infrastructure, emergency planners, and emergency responders at all levels of government of the threat of EMP events. To assist Congress in their review of the proposed legislation, Mike Caruso, Director of Government and Specialty Business Development for ETS-Lindgren, was invited to testify to Congress as an authority on this threat and current viable protection. The testimony was significant as these new regulations will impact how most businesses operate.Mr. Caruso (shown at far right in photo) explained in his testimony that viable protection is not only available, but several businesses have already implemented this protection to safeguard critical operations, including public utilities and financial institutions. He provided advice on effective protection, cost scenarios, and how to determine the effectiveness of a proposed protective solution.Given ETS-Lindgrens decades of RF shielding expertise, we had the capability to develop a new product line, Red Edge Pulse Protection Systems, specifically designed to protect against EMP as well as Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI), said Mr. Caruso. Because this is a relatively new threat most businesses are not familiar with, we had these products independently tested and certified by the Little Mountain Test Facility at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah - a facility owned by the US government and managed by Boeing. We are the only company whose entire product line of EMP protective solutions has been independently test and certified. That lends confidence to those seeking EMP and IEMI protection. To learn more, watch the video of the recent hearing: The EMP Threat: The State of Preparedness Against the Threat of an Electromagnetic Pulse Event.
