Sweep from 10 GHz to 40 GHz with New EMC Double-Ridged Horn Antenna

CEDAR PARK, Texas, October 19, 2012 ETS-Lindgren announced the latest addition to its family of double-ridged waveguide horn antennas for EMC measurements. The new Model 3116C corrects the beam splitting commonly found in ridged waveguide antennas, and now extends the lower frequency to 10 GHz. Users of this antenna benefit from uniform illumination of target surfaces and accurate gain measurement. The Model 3116C sweeps from 10 GHz to 40 GHz without stopping for band breaks, making it ideal for automated testing. In addition, the Model 3316C exhibits high gain and low VSWR across its operational frequency band, resulting in efficient amplifier usage and higher field strengths. The antenna accepts up to 20 watts of continuous input power. The Model 3116C is the latest evolution of this antenna design we started back in 2008. Since we presented the results at the 2009 IEEE International Symposium on EMC, further simulations have shown that we could extend the lower limit of the frequency range without affecting the upper frequency performance, said Dr. Vince Rodriguez, ETS-Lindgrens Product Line Manager, Antennas. Our experienced RF engineers worked with our manufacturing team to produce a practical and affordable realization of the modeling process. The result is an exceptional antenna that provides a uniform illumination of target surfaces with a gain less than 4 dB variation over the entire range, added Dr. Rodriguez.Optional mounting systems are available for the Model 3116C, including a mounting bracket for ETS-Lindgren or other tripod mounts with x 20 threads or a rear stinger mount. All production units are individually calibrated at ETS-Lindgrens A2LA accredited lab per SAE ARP 958 and are shipped with a manual, actual antenna factors and a signed Certificate of Calibration Conformance.
