IMQ Offers Expanded High-Quality EMC Test Capabilities in Bollate, Italy

ETS-Lindgren's 10-Meter Chamber Boasts Superior NSA and sVSWR Performance

CEDAR PARK, Texas – July 8, 2021 – When IMQ S.p.A. (European leader in Testing, Conformity Assessment, and Certification) decided to expand their EMC test capabilities at their division located in Bollate, Italy, their priority was to have a versatile test facility in order to meet the growing demands of their commercial, industrial, residential, and automotive customer base.  In addition, IMQ’s specific goal included providing high-quality test services for a wide range of products, from small consumer electronics to large full vehicles, with an equipment under test (EUT) size up to 5 m (16 ft).  To achieve this goal, ETS-Lindgren provided a FACT™10 (Free-space Anechoic Chamber Test-site) 10-meter EMC Test Chamber.  The 10-meter EMC Test Chamber offers the semi-anechoic radiated emissions and fully anechoic radiated immunity testing capability in compliance with most international EMC regulations, including Automotive, Commercial, Industrial, Military, and Aerospace Standards such as MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-464C, RTCA-DO-160G, CISPR 16, ANSI C63.4, and IEC 61000-4-3.  Prior to absorber installation, nominal internal shield-to-shield dimensions of the EMC Test Chamber were 20.5 m L x 10.6 m W x 8.4 m H (67 ft L x 36 ft W x 29 ft H).  With the addition of ETS-Lindgren’s DuraSorb™ polystyrene hybrid broadband absorber lining, the chamber provides NSA and sVSWR performance exceeding basic expectations at ±3.0 dB NSA from 30 MHz to 1 GHz and sVSWR ≤ 4.5 dB from 1 GHz to 18 GHz.

“The advanced building information modeling (BIM) capabilities carried out by ETS-Lindgren in the design phase, along with their high-performance hybrid absorber material, allowed us to obtain truly remarkable results in terms of NSA and sVSWR normalized attenuation curve.  These results enable IMQ to further expand its testing opportunities and capabilities,” said Roberto Colombo, Laboratory Manager with IMQ.  Mr. Colombo is very active in the EMC industry serving as Chairman of the Italian Body for Standardization Committee CEI 210 / 77B High Frequency Phenomena.  Due to this expertise, he is responsible for IMQ’s EMC, Radio, and ITS Test Laboratories.  “Given my busy schedule, I appreciated the experience of ETS-Lindgren having installed over one hundred chambers for EMC measurements at 10-meters – all over the world.  This mastery increased our confidence in generating an immediate return on investment from the new laboratory.”

Ammar Sarwar, Regional Sales Manager with ETS-Lindgren, commented, “We appreciate our continued partnership with IMQ.  Together with our veteran Italian-based installation team (Asea Sistemi), we have provided several EMC Test Chambers for IMQ in Italy over the years.  Our collective expertise and shared commitment to high-quality products and services results in successful project outcomes.”

In order to automate and expedite testing for IMQ’s diverse test applications, ETS-Lindgren provided its VisionTRX™ Visual Monitoring System software.  The software redefines automated movement-based analysis of EUT during EMC testing.  In order to verify EUT behavior, the software allows automated visual monitoring of relevant parameters during exposure to the required electromagnetic field strengths.

ETS-Lindgren also provided its industry-leading TILE!™ - Totally Integrated Laboratory Environment software. TILE! software is an integrated test environment for creating and performing EMC tests.  Available with a library of profiles, TILE! is designed for testing to international test regulations for radiated emissions and immunity (RE, RI) and conducted emissions and immunity (CE, CI).  TILE! is notably hardware-independent with driver support for most EMC instrumentation available today and options to add drivers for new instruments in the future.  This ability provides tremendous flexibility for IMQ’s use of existing and future instrumentation, regardless of brand, for their EMC test requirements.
