ETS-Lindgren Announces Technical Contributions to AMTA 2020, Industrys Leading Symposium on Antenna Measurement Techniques

CEDAR PARK, Texas, October 1, 2020 - ETS-Lindgren announced its technical contributions to AMTA 2020, the annual gathering of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA).  The Symposium will be held virtually from November 2 5, from 9:00 am 5:00 pm EST each day.  The contributions include the presentation of several research papers.  ETS-Lindgren is also proud to be a Silver Sponsor and to support the AMTA organization.  Please visit ETS-Lindgren during the Virtual Exhibition held on November 2 4 to learn about our latest products and services.

The papers contributed by ETS-Lindgren are presented in Session 3: Measurement System Design and Methods.  This session is scheduled each day on-demand over November 2 4.  Live Q&A with the speakers in Session 3 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, from 11:30 am 12:30 pm EST.  The first paper is co-authored by ETS-Lindgren engineers Anoop Adhyapak, Senior RF Engineer; Zhong Chen, Director of RF Engineering; and Garth D'Abreu, Director of Automotive Solutions.  Mr. Adhyapak will present their paper "Analysis and Characterization of Tapered Chambers," in which tapered chambers are shown as ideal test environments for antenna pattern measurements at low frequencies.  The authors also discuss the advantage of such chambers over conventional rectangular-shaped chambers in achieving a desired performance level in terms of field uniformity and ripple at the quiet zone due to the low reflectivity of the chamber.  To achieve such performance using a rectangular-shaped chamber could lead to the design of larger rooms and associated significant cost increases.  This paper analyzes the characteristics of tapered chambers using the novel Fourier analysis characterization method, reexamining the known concepts and ideologies of the tapered chamber design from a different perspective.

Session 3 also includes the second paper "Numerical Study of the RCS of Pyramidal Absorber Geometries" co-authored by Vince Rodriguez of NSI-MI Technologies and Zhong Chen of ETS-Lindgren.  This paper addresses the Radar Cross Section (RCS) application of different absorber configurations. Conventional solutions are revisited by looking at the effects of using smaller pyramids inserted into the main pyramidal absorber treatment.  Included numerical simulations provide a review of different material properties for the RF absorber that suggest a standard pyramid absorber with optimal loading can outperform a twisted pyramid absorber.

"Examination of EMC Chamber Qualification Methodology for Applications above 1 GHz Using Frequency Domain Mode Filtering" is the final ETS-Lindgren paper in Session 3.  In conjunction with Stuart Gregson of Next Phase Measurements, Mr. Chen will present this paper that reviews a novel SVSWR measurement method for evaluating EMC chambers based on placing an omni-directional antenna at the outer edge of the turntable and collecting vector data for several 1D-pattern cuts.  In contrast to conventional techniques, the novel method does not suffer from positional under-sampling, so it is ideal for use at microwave frequencies and above.
