TV SD Partners with ETS-Lindgren to Offer Versatile EMC Test Capabilities in Italy

CEDAR PARK, Texas January 28, 2021 With demand growing for automotive EMC testing of full vehicles and components as well as for commercial, consumer, medical, and wireless products, TV SD partnered with ETS-Lindgren to expand their test capabilities.  Now, with ETS-Lindgren's FACT10 (Free-space Anechoic Chamber Test-site) 10-meter EMC Test Chamber, the TV SD facility in Volpiano, Italy, provides a truly versatile test environment.  The FACT 10 EMC Test Chamber offers the semi-anechoic radiated emissions (30 MHz to 40 GHz) and fully anechoic radiated immunity (26 MHz to 40 GHz) testing capability in compliance with most international EMC regulations.  The approximate shield-to-shield dimensions of the 10-meter EMC Test Chamber are 18 m L x 9 m W x 7 m H (59 ft L x 29.5 ft W x 23 ft H).  An Amplifier Room with approximate shield-to-shield dimensions of 5 m L x 2 m W x 3 m H (16 ft L x 6.5 ft W x 10 ft H) houses the test instrumentation to support compliance testing.  ETS-Lindgren's advanced chamber modeling capabilities result in optimized hybrid absorber coverage and ensured our ability to exceed TV SD's test requirements at a competitive price.  "To facilitate greater flexibility in the test services TV SD offers, we also integrated a built-in, passive chassis dynamometer for testing motorcycles and passenger vehicles that can be upgraded to active in the future.  This provides TV SD with the opportunity to further expand their test capabilities," said Ammar Sarwar, Regional Sales Manager with ETS-Lindgren.

"We valued ETS-Lindgren's expertise having installed over one hundred 10-meter chambers worldwide, even in smaller buildings.  That increased our confidence in having an immediate return on our investment," advised Elena Ferrarese, Quality Management Representative and Technical Manager with TV SD.  "In addition, as both the chamber manufacturer and system integrator, ETS-Lindgren provided a convenient turnkey solution for the chambers as well as software, accessories, integration, qualification, and onsite training.  With their decades of experience in building full vehicle automotive, aircraft, and satellite test chambers, we knew we could count on ETS-Lindgren's veteran team of project managers.  Having a single point of responsibility with ETS-Lindgren minimized our risk and maximized the success of this project. We considered it especially successful, considering the pandemic, to have a team located in Italy (Asea Sistemi) for the construction."

Asea Sistemi, ETS-Lindgren's trusted partner in Italy, installed the chambers, components, and absorber.  Luigi Caputo, Chief Executive Officer with Asea Sistemi, stated, "This project presented some challenges due the space constraints at the TV SD facility.  I'm very proud of the ETS-Lindgren engineering team that designed the optimal chamber to fit the space and exceed the performance standards for testing a wide range of products with very low ambient noise.  We completed the design, delivery, and installation including calibration within eight months!  Our dedicated technical project manager for the duration of the project was key to our success."  You can view a time lapse video of the 10-meter EMC Test Chamber installation here.

ETS-Lindgren lined the FACT 10 EMC Test Chamber with DuraSorb hybrid broadband absorber materials.  DuraSorb is manufactured in-house at ETS-Lindgren under a strict ISO 9001 Quality Management System.  It is constructed using substrates with rigid, closed cell foams loaded volumetrically and uniformly throughout each absorber.  DuraSorb meets the requirements specified in Automotive, Commercial, Industrial, Military, and Aerospace Standards such as MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-464C, RTCA-DO-160G, CISPR 16, ANSI C63.4, and IEC 61000-4-3.  Each piece of absorber is factory-tested before shipment, and full performance data is provided.

In order to automate and expedite testing for TV SD's commercial as well as automotive test applications, ETS-Lindgren provided its VisionTRX Visual Monitoring System software.  The software redefines automated movement-based analysis of Equipment Under Test (EUT) during EMC testing.  In order to verify EUT behavior, the software allows automated visual monitoring of relevant parameters during exposure to the required electromagnetic field strengths.  EUT may include speedometer needles, dash lights, LEDs, radios, heads up displays, etc. the possibilities are limitless.  VisionTRX provides the flexibility to adapt the software to TV SD's varied commercial and automotive test requirements.
