ETS-Lindgren Becomes First Approved Test System Supplier for New CTIA MIMO Over-the-Air Standard

ETS-Lindgren Becomes First Approved Test System Supplier for New CTIA MIMO Over-the-Air Standard

Wireless Test Chamber Pioneer Recognized for its Continued Technical Contributions to Antenna Measurement Systems

CEDAR PARK, Texas, January 18, 2017 ETS-Lindgren has always been at the forefront of any new Over-the-Air (OTA) test requirements since the first adaptation of the CTIA Over-the-Air test plan. In 2002, ETS-Lindgren manufactured the worlds first CTIA Approved Test Laboratory (CATL). In 2016, CTIA introduced a next generation Over-the-Air test plan for Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) devices. In December 2016, ETS-Lindgren was included in the MIMO Authorized Equipment List as the first and only supplier that is able to provide a system level solution to conduct MIMO Over-the-Air measurements in accordance with the CTIA Test Plan for 2x2 Downlink MIMO and Transmit Diversity Over-the-Air Performance, Version 1.1. The list includes ETS-Lindgrens Antenna Measurement System (AMS) Model AMS-8700 as well as the AMS-8900 Model Series.

The ETS-Lindgren MIMO Over-the-Air antenna test system - including the multi-probe anechoic test chamber, related components and EMQuest software - are all part of the CTIA-authorized test system. As part of the CTIA approval process, full system level evaluation was conducted that included the measurement instrumentation as well. The ETS-Lindgren MIMO Over-the-Air test system was approved with various different instrumentation combinations. The list of these approved instrumentation manufacturers is available on the CTIA website.

Roger Hatch, senior director for Solutions Development at ETS-Lindgren, said, We are extremely happy to see the approval of our MIMO OTA solution by CTIA. This has required a lot of work not only from the engineers at ETS-Lindgren, but also from our partner organizations. I know our customers are pleased to hear these recent developments. The fact that we continue to lead in the wireless OTA test segment provides assurance that we can support them in any new OTA requirements we may see in the future, just as we have done with the MIMO OTA testing.

ETS-Lindgren has long been an active technical contributor to the CTIA standards committees. As noted above, in December 2002, ETS-Lindgren became the first CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) for mobile station radiated performance testing. This pioneering achievement set the benchmark for accurate antenna pattern measurement a key metric for evaluating the performance of wireless devices. Today, more than 75% of the CATLs worldwide utilize ETS-Lindgrens solutions for radiated performance testing.
