ETS-Lindgren Announces Technical Contributions to EMC+SIPI 2024

Automotive EMC, EMP, Compressed Sensing, Measurement Uncertainty, and Time Domain Gating to Be Presented at Leading IEEE Symposium

 

CEDAR PARK, Texas, July 25, 2024 — ETS-Lindgren announced its technical contributions to the 2024 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Signal & Power Integrity (SIPI).  The EMC+SIPI Symposium will be held in person from August 5 to 9, 2024, at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix.  This year’s contributions include two panel discussions, four tutorials, and two workshops, all on a wide variety of topics, in addition to a hardware demonstration.  ETS-Lindgren is also proud to be a Symposium Sponsor and to support the IEEE EMC Society.  Visit Booth #401 during the Symposium Exhibition to learn about ETS-Lindgren's latest products and services.  Exhibit hours are scheduled from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm MST on Tuesday, August 6; from 10 am to 5 pm MST on Wednesday, August 7; and from 10 am to 1 pm MST on Thursday, August 8.  Please check the Symposium website for updates to the Exhibition schedule and related news. 

 

ETS-Lindgren's technical contributions begin on Monday, August 5, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm MST.  ETS-Lindgren’s Director of Automotive Solutions, Garth D’Abreu, will present “Expanding Options for EMC Testing of Automotive Components and Full Vehicles” in a special Automotive Tutorial Session co-chaired by Mr. D’Abreu and Craig Fanning of Elite Electronic Engineering.  Speakers from Aptiv, Nexperia, Ford Motor Company, Analog Devices, and Oakland University round out the technical program addressing the question “Today’s Automotive EMC/RF Testing: Is It Enough?”

 

On Tuesday, August 6, Mr. D’Abreu will participate as an invited panelist on the “Ask the Experts” panel to be held from 10:00 to 11:30 am MST in the Exhibit Hall.  Moderated by Janet O’Neil, ETS-Lindgren’s Customer Services Manager, the session, “Automotive Hybrid, Electric and Autonomous — Addressing the Complexity of Modern Vehicles,” also includes panelists representing leading companies TÜV Rheinland, Ford Motor Company, Rohde & Schwarz, Rivian Automotive, and Aptiv. 

 

In parallel with the Tuesday panel above, ETS-Lindgren’s RF Engineer Yibo Wang will provide the demonstration “Unveiling Time Domain Gating: Enhancing Control and Versatility with a Newly Developed Library” from 10 am to 12 pm MST as part of the popular Experiments and Demonstrations program in the Exhibit Hall.  Andrew Shyne of The Boeing Company will co-present the demonstration with Mr. Wang.   

 

Wednesday, August 7, is a busy day for ETS-Lindgren, with numerous presentations scheduled.  The morning sessions, held from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm MST, include the popular tutorial “EMC Test Planning,” which returns to the technical program once again.  ETS-Lindgren’s EMC Systems Engineer, Jack McFadden will present "EMC Test Planning.” Mr. McFadden will co-chair this tutorial session with Bob Mitchell of TÜV Rheinland.  Mr. Mitchell will also present in this session, which features speakers from De Montfort University, Gibbs and Cox, and LearnEMC. 

 

Also on Wednesday morning, August 7, a new workshop debuts at the Symposium on the popular topic of artificial intelligence.  Ms. O’Neil will co-chair the session “Introduction to Machine Learning for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Signal Integrity” with ETS-Lindgren’s Chief Engineer, Zhong Chen.  Mr. Chen will present “Compressed Sensing Applications in EMC Chamber Evaluations” in the workshop with contributions from local experts at Arizona State University as well as Missouri Institute of Science and Technology and The Boeing Company.

 

In the Exhibit Hall on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:30 am, Mr. D’Abreu has been invited to participate in the second “Ask the Experts” panel titled “Step, Stir, or Shake: What’s Best for a Reverberation Chamber?”  Organized by Vignesh Rajamani of Rohde & Schwarz, other expert panelists include representatives from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); Thales and University of Twente, Netherlands; and Elite Electronic Engineering.  

 

On Wednesday afternoon, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm MST, ETS-Lindgren’s Director of Business Development, Healthcare & Industry/Government, Tara Kellogg, will chair the Women in Engineering (WIE) Special Session. Ms. Kellogg is the EMC Society WIE Chair, Americas, as well as the Central Texas IEEE EMC Chapter Chair.  This year, the WIE session features a panel discussion on “Artificial Intelligence: What Motivates the Women in Engineering at INTEL?”  The panelists presented in an EMC Society-hosted webinar earlier this year; as a result, by popular demand, a “live” version of this session will be held during the Symposium in Phoenix, where Intel is based.  The webinar, featuring the outstanding Intel speakers, is available here on demand for those who would like a “sneak peek” of what to look forward to during this year’s WIE Special Session.

 

After a day off on Thursday, ETS-Lindgren’s technical contributions continue Friday, August 9.  In the morning session, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm MST, Mr. Rajamani will chair and present in the tutorial “Application of Reverb Chambers”;  Mr. D’Abreu’s lecture will address “Reverb Chamber Challenges.”  Additional speakers in the tutorial represent Oklahoma State University; Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division; University of Twente, Netherlands; and NIST.

 

In the afternoon sessions scheduled from 1:30 to 5:00 pm MST, Ms. O’Neil will co-chair the workshop “Effectively Navigating Measurement Uncertainties in the Real World” with Dennis Lewis of The Boeing Company, who will also give a presentation  “Understanding Uncertainties for EMC Antenna Measurements in Accordance with the Guide to Uncertainty in Measurements,” will be presented by Mr. Chen.  Rounding out the international roster of speakers are experts from Intertek; Bundeswehr Research Institute for Protective Technologies and CBRN Protection; University of Twente, Netherlands; and NIST.

 

To conclude the company’s contributions to the technical program, in parallel with the above session, ETS-Lindgren’s Product Line Technical Manager, RF Filters, Sergio Longoria, will present “Update of IEC 61000-4-24 (Conducted Test Methods)” in the tutorial “Progress in IEC SC 77C Standards Regarding HEMP and IEMI Environments, Test Methods, and Protection Methods.”  Tutorial Chair William A. Radasky of Metatech Corporation will also present in this tutorial with well-known contributors from University of New Mexico and QinetiQ.

 

ETS-Lindgren has big plans this year for its Exhibition.  “Please visit us in Booth #401 during the Exhibition from August 6 to 8.  We will again have a large booth with live demonstrations of our industry-leading EMC Software Solutions as well as application engineers and sales professionals to assist our customers with their calibration, EMC, EMP, microwave/RF, automotive, and wireless test and measurement requirements,” said ETS-Lindgren’s Subject Matter Expert and Director, Global Marketing, Joel Kellogg.  “New this year — given the increased interest in ISO 11451-5, Annex G — our engineers have created a unique demonstration using a small reverb chamber to educate visitors about the implications of this newly released standard and reverb testing in general.  We saw the novel demonstration in-house before shipping the chamber to Phoenix — it’s impressive!  Attendees who visit the ETS-Lindgren booth will have an opportunity to learn more about this automotive test application and many other unique products and services,” he added.
