ETS-Lindgrens Experts to Present at May 15 IEEE Webinar on Solutions for Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)

CEDAR PARK, Texas, May 12, 2020 The IEEE North Jersey Section Power and Energy Society (PES) Chapter and Life Members Affinity Group, as well as the New York Chapter of the IEEE Industry Applications Society, have organized an extended webinar on "Solutions for Electromagnetic Pulse."  The webinar is scheduled for Friday, May 15, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm EDT.  Speakers include ETS-Lindgren's EMP experts Sergio Longoria, Technical Product Line Manager; Bob Piemonte, Director, Government and General Purpose Shielding; and Joel Kellogg, Director, Business Development for Healthcare, Industrial, and Government Shielding.

The webinar begins with Mr. Longoria presenting an overview and brief history of EMP.  Mr. Kellogg will discuss EMP threats, governance, industry trends and mitigation strategies currently being deployed or under consideration by public utilities.  After a review of EMP filter solutions and standards update by Mr. Longoria, the session will conclude with Mr. Piemonte discussing RF shielding solutions for EMP, High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), and Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI).  Questions will be taken throughout the webinar.  Participants will gain an understanding of EMP, learn about the latest requirements for EMP hardening to meet industry and government issued standards, and be educated about options available to protect critical infrastructure from EMP threats.

The IEEE North Jersey Section PES is hosting the extended webinar as a courtesy to its members and prospective members in order to provide quality education during the challenging times of COVID-19. There is no charge to register, and three hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be provided upon request.  Register here and use the password "IEEE" to join the webinar.  Note that registration is limited and participation will be confirmed in the order received.  The "Solutions for EMP" webinar will be available on-demand once the live session ends; visit http://www.ets-lindgren.com/services/education-training for the link to the recorded webinar after May 15.

In May 2015, an expert from ETS-Lindgren testified before the US Congress Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (CIPA) Hearing that EMP protection is available and cost effective and that several businesses have voluntarily already implemented this protection.  This testimony, along with those of other experts, provided the rationale and feasibility of the CIPA.  The White House signed the CIPA into law in December 2016 to address Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and Geomagnetic Disturbance (GMD) protection of 16 critical infrastructure segments.  Since that time, ETS-Lindgren has been at the forefront of providing EMP protection solutions and consulting services for the US Government, public utilities and financial institutions, to name a few of the industries the company serves.

ETS-Lindgren is a recognized world leader and a proven provider of integrated solutions for protection from the effects of EMP events.  "We are the only company whose entire line of EMP protective solutions have been independently tested and certified by the Little Mountain Test Facility at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, a facility owned by the US Government and managed by Boeing," said Mr. Kellogg.  "This shows our commitment to providing high-quality, integrated system solutions for our customers.  We look forward to sharing our expertise during the webinar on May 15."
