Innovative Automotive Test Solutions from ETS-Lindgren

Unique Chambers Offer EMC and Antenna Pattern Measurement Capabilities for Autonomous and Electric Vehicles

CEDAR PARK, Texas January 21, 2018 In the rapidly evolving autonomous and electric vehicle industry, full vehicle performance testing is of increasing importance. A robust test and measurement environment to evaluate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as well as vehicle level antenna pattern and communication protocol testing is critical to address public safety concerns.  ETS-Lindgren empowers automotive manufacturers with innovative automotive test solutions that verify vehicles perform without electromagnetic interference.  One such example is the unique tapered anechoic chamber ETS-Lindgren designed and installed for Nissan.  The chamber provides the optimal solution for EMC as well as in-vehicle 2D antenna pattern measurements and hemispherical 3D antenna pattern measurements at the full vehicle level.  The cube of the chamber measures 18 m (59 ft) long x 15 m (49 ft) wide x 14 m (46 ft) high, with the tapered section adding 36.6 m (120 ft) in length.  Featuring an 8.2 m (27 ft) diameter turntable with a chassis dynamometer, the chamber complies with the global automotive and EMC standards CISPR 12/16/25, ISO 11451-2/11452-2, ECE Reg.10.5, SAE J551/5, and ANSI C63.4.

Key to the success of these projects is the depth of ETS-Lindgren's expertise and ability to design and install a turnkey, system-level project, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) by ETS-Lindgren's in house certified team, all components, instrumentation and software.  ETS-Lindgren's newest software for automotive test applications is VisionTRX a visual monitoring system that redefines automated failure based analysis of a Device Under Test (DUT) during EMC and many other testing scenarios.  The DUT may include speedometer needles, dash lights, LEDs, radios, heads up displays, etc.  This complete approach including expert design, proven hardware and customized software ensures all components work together seamlessly for a successful automotive test environment.

"Our team at ETS-Lindgren has a unique background in EMC and wireless testing.  We've received numerous patents over several decades and achieved many industry firsts, such as the first CTIA Authorized Test Lab (CATL) for testing the performance of wireless devices," said Garth D'Abreu, Director of Automotive Solutions for ETS-Lindgren.  "This proven expertise in both EMC and antenna pattern measurements results in innovative solutions that we can individually tailor to meet a customer's specific performance requirements and budget parameters.   We're in a unique position to leverage our experience in the developing autonomous vehicle test arena."
