ETS-Lindgren Announces Technical Contributions to IMS2020

5G and EMC Topics to be Presented at Leading IEEE Microwave Symposium

CEDAR PARK, Texas, July 22, 2020 ETS-Lindgren announced its technical contributions to the 2020 IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS2020) sponsored by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society.  The contributions include technical presentations on 5G and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) topics as part of the MicroApps and Industry Workshops sessions.  The Symposium will be held virtually as a Live Stream event on August 4 6.  The pre-recorded MicroApps and Industry Workshops start at 8:00 am PDT on Tuesday, August 4, and will be available on-demand through September 30.  ETS-Lindgren is also proud to support the IEEE MTT Society and participate in the virtual exhibition.  Please visit ETS-Lindgren's virtual booth during the Symposium exhibition from 9:00 am 9:00 pm PDT on August 4 6 to learn about our latest products and services; sales and engineering staff will be available during these exhibit hours or by appointment.  Details on the exhibition will be announced shortly.

The IEEE MTT International Microwave Symposium (IMS) is the premier annual gathering of technologists involved in all aspects of microwave theory and practice.  It consists of a full week of events, including technical paper presentations, panel sessions, workshops, and tutorials.  The symposium typically attracts over 7,000 international attendees to its in-person symposium due to the high quality of its technical content and large commercial exhibition.  This year promises to attract greater attendance due to the convenience of the new virtual format.

ETS-Lindgren's James Young, Director of Business Development, will present "FCC Part 30 Emissions Measurements for 5G FR2 Devices" (Session THMA58) as part of the MicroApps program.  These 15-minute presentations provide a quick technical overview on new technology.  Mr. Young's presentation addresses FCC Part 30 and the radiated tests required on 5G mmWave devices.  He will share information on new system solutions specifically designed for the mmWave measurements required per FCC Part 30 and other radiated tests of wireless devices.  The MicroApps presentation will present an overview of this complex testing; those interested in learning more can visit ETS-Lindgren's virtual booth to speak with our experts, including Mr. Young.

As industry leaders in the test and measurement of wireless devices with a unique, extensive background in EMC, ETS-Lindgren will present two Industry Workshops, featuring one or more speakers in extended sessions for an in-depth review of a topic.

ETS-Lindgren's first Industry Workshop is "5G Performance Verification Test Challenges of Modern Wireless Devices" (Session IW19AB) and includes a presentation of the same name by our Director for Wireless Solutions, Jari Vikstedt.  ETS-Lindgren's Jun Luo, Senior Software Engineer, will present "On the Measurement of Radiated Power for 5G Mobile Device with a Spectrum Analyzer."  Rounding out the workshop program is Harry Skinner, Intel Fellow, who will present "Next Generation Wireless and RF Immunity Testing."  Mr. Vikstedt noted, "Harry's technical contributions to Wireless Communications Research at Intel Labs are well known in the IEEE EMC Society. He is a frequent speaker on wireless co-existence topics at many global conferences.  Due to his considerable expertise and cutting-edge research, we invited him to present in our Wireless Industry Day Technical Session at IMS2013 in Seattle, WA.  My colleague Jun and I look forward to having him present in our session once again at IMS2020."

ETS-Lindgren's second Industry Workshop "Achieving Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for 5G Devices" (IW27C) features Ross Carlton, EMC Systems Integration Engineer with ETS-Lindgren.  Mr. Carlton will present "3GPP Electromagnetic Compatibility Requirements for 5G Devices."  EMC as related to 5G is a relatively new topic for the IMS technical program.  "Achieving EMC for an intentionally radiating device is a complicated task that should be addressed before the start of design activity, though oftentimes this is not the case," said Mr. Carlton.  "We'll explain why this is important and discuss the EMC requirements for 5G New Radio (NR) base stations, mobile terminals, and ancillary equipment as defined in the 3GPP and ETSI technical specifications."
