ETS‑Lindgren Announces New ETS-U Course

March 5, 2026

Topics Address EMC Fundamentals and MIL-STD-461 Requirements

CEDAR PARK, Texas – March 5, 2026 – In the rapidly evolving commercial electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) industry with renewed interest in the functionally of electronic devices in aerospace and defense environments, optimal EMC design and performance testing is of increasing importance. To address these topics from a “real-world” perspective, ETS‑Lindgren announces the dates of Tuesday to Thursday, April 28 to 30, 2026, for the ETS-U Course “EMC Fundamentals and MIL-STD-461 Requirements.” The Course will be held at Elite Electronic Engineering, ETS‑Lindgren’s Training Facility Partner, in Downers Grove, Illinois. As with past editions of this Course, the primary speaker is Daniel D. Hoolihan, a noted EMC industry consultant. The technical program is designed for engineers and technical leaders seeking practical insight into EMC compliance, standards interpretation, and on-the-ground testing. A highlight of the Course is the tour of Elite’s EMC Test Lab with live demonstrations that complement the lecture material presented.

The first day of the Course addresses commercial EMC fundamentals, with an emphasis on commercial radiated and conducted emissions; commercial radiated and conducted immunity; as well as EMI sources, measurement techniques, and compliance strategies. On the second day, students will learn about military standards and MIL-STD-461G applications, including the topics MIL-STD-461G conducted emissions; MIL-STD-461G radiated emissions; conducted and radiated susceptibility concepts; MIL-STD-461G Notes, Appendix A, and MIL-STD-464 system-level considerations; and common compliance challenges and mitigation strategies. Concluding the Course, the third day features a hands-on lab experience for students during the Elite EMC Laboratory Tour. Students will explore a fully accredited EMC test facility and witness a live MIL-STD-461 test demonstration. Selected test methods with a discussion of instrumentation, setups, and result interpretation will be reviewed. A distinctive hallmark of the ETS-U courses is this integration of learning with hands-on demonstrations. Throughout the Course, students will be informed on military regulatory requirements to bridge standards with practical testing and design decisions. Lectures will cover fundamental to advanced topics during the three-day Course.

Mr. Hoolihan notes, “By the end of this program, students will be able to apply EMC fundamentals to both commercial and military compliance programs. They will interpret MIL-STD-461G emission and susceptibility requirements with confidence and connect test standards to real-world implementation and design decisions. Students will also know how to leverage MIL-STD-461G Notes, Appendix A, and MIL-STD-464 at the system level. As a result of this focused education, each student will be equipped with the tools necessary to reduce risk through practical insights into laboratory testing and compliance strategies.”

Students will benefit from ETS‑Lindgren’s expertise as the global leader in EMC, Antenna Measurement, and RF Test Solutions, providing deep standards knowledge and system-level insight. In addition, Elite’s expertise provides students with hands-on exposure to a fully accredited EMC test facility with real-world test setups and workflows.

The Course is designed for EMC, RF, and systems engineers; test, validation, and qualification engineers and technicians; product development engineers; compliance and certification leads; as well as program and project managers supporting defense, aerospace, or commercial platforms.

Note: Attendance is strictly limited at all ETS-U Courses to ensure optimal interaction with the speakers.  Registration is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis until the Course is full. View the registration page for complete information on the Course agenda and speaker biography.
