Symposium on High-Power Electromagnetics Attracts International Experts

GlobalEM 2024 Comes to Austin, Texas!

CEDAR PARK, Texas, February 8, 2024 – The SUMMA Foundation and ETS-Lindgren will partner as co-hosts of the in-person GlobalEM 2024 Symposium to be held July 14 to 19, 2024, in downtown Austin, Texas, at the AT&T Conference Center.  ETS-Lindgren will organize the bi-annual Symposium that is maintained by the SUMMA Foundation, a shepherd of the GlobalEM Symposium series.  The Symposium is well known for attracting an international delegation of industry experts, including Professor Farhad Rachidi, IEEE Fellow, EMP Fellow, and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) Head of EMC Group.  Professor Rachidi enthused, “I look forward to attending the GlobalEM 2024 Symposium in Austin, Texas.  Drs. Radasky and Mora always put together an outstanding technical program.  In addition, the Symposium provides a unique opportunity to network with experts in high-power electromagnetics.  I am always inspired by the discussions held during the GlobalEM Symposiums – it truly benefits my future research efforts.”

As Professor Rachidi noted, the highly respected Drs. Bill Radasky, Technical Program Committee (TPC) Chair, and Nicolas Mora (TPC Vice Chair), return to organize yet another outstanding technical program.  This year, the technical program will follow past editions of the GlobalEM Symposium in featuring a keynote presentation and several plenary presentations of general interest to Symposium attendees.  Regular submitted papers in the 17 topical areas of High-Power Electromagnetics (HPEM) will return as an integral part of this year’s technical program.  Those interested in contributing to the technical program can view the many topical areas related to HEMP and paper submission details here.  Note the submittal deadline for one-page extended abstract papers is Friday, March 8.

ETS-Lindgren’s Subject Matter Expert and Global Marketing Director Joel Kellogg supports the organization of the Symposium.  “We look forward to receiving many high-quality papers by the March 8 deadline.  We’ve talked with our contacts in the utility industry and appreciate that they are interested in contributing to the technical program.  At ETS-Lindgren, we are finding increased interest in protecting critical infrastructure from HPEM, High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), and Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI) events; certainly, utilities are eager to learn more about effective solutions for HPEM, HEMP, and IEMI protection,” observed Mr. Kellogg.  “Utilities and those involved in protection of critical infrastructure will discover the latest product and service offerings during the GlobalEM 2024 exhibition and technical sessions,” he added.

To facilitate networking, the Symposium begins with a Welcome Reception on Sunday evening, July 14.  A second social event, the Gala Banquet, will be held on Wednesday evening, July 17.  The social events will showcase the Southern hospitality and cuisine for which Austin is well known, including legendary Texas barbecue and Tex-Mex Queso – a local favorite of hot cheesy dip often made with chopped peppers.  Symposium attendees will surely appreciate Austin’s diverse and expansive food culture with menus available to please every palate!

The Symposium technical program concludes on Friday, July 19, with a Technical Tour of ETS-Lindgren’s world headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas, just north of Austin.  During the tour, participants will learn about the company’s manufacturing capabilities for products supporting the R&D relevant to GlobalEM 2024 Symposium attendees.  Highlights will include touring ETS-Lindgren’s expanded production line for radio frequency (RF) and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) / HEMP power, signal (sensor), data, and control line filters.  The RF Filter product line includes ETS-Lindgren’s HEMP / EMP Commercial and Defense Non-Tempest Powerline Filters with Red Edge™ Technology to protect against damage to electronic equipment and loss of data caused by sudden and intense EMP and IEMI.  Contact ETS-Lindgren via phone +1 512-531-6400 or email info@ets-lindgren.com for assistance with your TEMPEST, SCIF, IEMI, and EMP protection requirements.

Dr. Fernando Albarracin, Principal Researcher at Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII), was part of the TII team that hosted the last GlobalEM Symposium, held in 2022 in Abu Dhabi.  As with Professor Rachidi of EPFL, he is enthusiastic about this year’s Symposium and will be one of the many international experts in Austin.  Hear his thoughts on the Symposium and plans to submit a paper during the Industry Insights with Janet O’Neil podcast.  Click here to listen now.
