IEEE EMC Society Appoints ETS-Lindgren Engineer as New Distinguished Lecturer

CEDAR PARK, Texas, December 16, 2021 – ETS-Lindgren announced the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has appointed Garth D’Abreu, Director, Automotive Technology, as a Distinguished Lecturer for the years 2022-2023.  The EMC Society’s Distinguished Lecturer Program provides speakers on various aspects of EMC for chapter meetings and similar functions.  Candidates for the program are selected based upon professional competence and recognition of EMC expertise, familiarity with emerging technologies related to EMC, communication and presentation skills, as well as the recommendation of EMC Society members, among other criteria. Garth D’Abreu of ETS-Lindgren (US) joins Nicolas Mora of Technology Innovation Institute (United Arab Emirates), Robert Kebel of Airbus (Germany), and Karen Burnham of Electro Magnetic Applications (US), who were approved for this prestigious appointment during the meetings of the EMC Society’s Board of Directors on December 9-10, 2021.

Mr. D’Abreu offers the following presentation topics as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Program:

·       Vehicle Antenna Measurement: Antenna pattern measurement techniques and over-the-air (OTA) testing to validate intended performance of wireless systems operating over the communication and navigation bands

·       Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) EMC Testing: EMC testing of ADAS-related features for functional performance, safety, and reliability

·       Reverberation Chambers: Design, validation, and testing for EMC and wireless applications

·       EMC Chambers and Testing: Design considerations for multi-purpose test requirements, standards development, and best chamber selection for the application

Mr. D’Abreu is based at ETS-Lindgren’s corporate headquarters in Cedar Park, Texas. He has primary responsibility for the design and development functions worldwide within the Systems Engineering group, specializing in turnkey solutions for Automotive EMC and Wireless Test Integration.  Some of these more complex full vehicle and electronic sub-assembly (ESA) test chambers involve his coordination with the RF engineering team on custom components, and the certified, internal Building Information Modeling (BIM) team at ETS-Lindgren.  Due to his considerable industry experience, he is the ETS-Lindgren global subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the ongoing research and development of Automotive EMC/Wireless Test Chambers for Regular, Electric/Hybrid Electric and Autonomous Vehicles, focusing on combination anechoic chambers, reverberation chambers, GTEM cells, EMP protection applications, and wireless device test systems.  Mr. D’Abreu is a Senior Member of the IEEE EMC Society and active participant in standards development, including the SAE, ISO, and CISPR D automotive EMC standards, with more than 30 years of experience in the RF industry.  He holds a BSc degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering from North London University, UK.  The presentation “EMC Measurement Test Challenges of Autonomous Vehicles” by Mr. D’Abreu launched the EMC Society’s Webinar Series in April 2020.  It is available here for on-demand viewing.
